Well, this is the first time that I discovered that GS had an Alumni web page...this is a great way to get in touch with people that I haven't seen or heard from in years! I am attending Appalachian State University and majoring in Elementary Education. After attending GSE (theatre) in the summer of '97, it changed my life forever. I was so scared about going at first, but after the 6 weeks were over I did not want to leave! I was a "drama freak", and for those other drama freaks, I was the quiet country girl from the middle of nowhere. I hope life is treating all of you well, I would love to hear what you guys are doing NOW! I am sure you are all very successful. It is weird how the people you meet at Governor's School, you still run into them in the weirdest unexpected places....I saw Nick this summer because our younger sisters both attended summer ventures at ECU, and they ended up being great friends...how weird is that?? And in the little town of Boone, NC I saw Eric at the $1.50 movie theatre with his family and friends!!! Now, that IS weird that I would see our director in BOONE!! I saw 2 guys in New York City the winter after GS, and I see GS'ers all over ASU now....I am sure we have all changed so much, but I know that one summer will always be cherished by all of us forever! Please get in touch, I would love to hear from you. Good luck in the future and maybe we'll run into each other one day.....

~Polished~ Katie Wall 12/18/00 to Salem Tear stained cheeks Looking down, you could see my ruddy chipped polish When you came, I was weary Without warning you lifted my chin My spirit was engulfed by the warmth of your embrace As the sun beat down upon my shoulders Your gentle hand imparted a different kind of wisdom You brushed away the tears You lifted the sorrow from my heart You taught me to be free to love to dance to my own music to run upon my own trail The polish shone brilliantly red underneath those cloudless skies My cheeks were rosy, a smile scarred my golden face You left as suddenly as you came Reaching for one last embrace, a gulp of stinging air penetrates my lungs With the sharp realization as if waking from a dream of perfection, I scream aloud I polished them for you Today I hold my memories deep inside striving to fill my internal emptiness afraid to share afraid to forget and more afraid to remember While my heart bears the ache of winter's chill promise me, promise me that summer days will come again ===== ~Katie~

Please continue to keep in touch, as you all hold a special place in my heart. Have a great holiday season and I hope to see all of you again soon. Love always, Sanja

As I was reading through these notes, I noticed one overriding theme: No one seems to know how to contact their classmates. Well, we have facilities right here on the site to handle that. Go to the home page and select Contact, then Other Alumni, from the menu. That brings up our page that displays all the E-mail addresses that we have for all alumni, sorted by year. There are even mail lists, that allow you to contact everyone in your class by sending a message to the list address. I noticed that a lot of the Class of 2000 that has posted here in the Guestbook are NOT in the list. To get your E-mail address into the list, all you have to do is update your record in the Alumni Database (also available from the main menu), and your address will get added to the lists during our next monthly update. Keep in touch and let others keep in touch with you!

Let me just say that being chosen to attend GSE was the greatest and most influential thing that has ever happened to me. Even now, I cannot believe that those six weeks has had such a profound impact on my life and how I perceive others. A group of brilliant high school students, wacky, goofy, cool, rich, poor whatever...sent to live for a brief moment on a deserted campus in the middle of the boon-docks?...If that's not utopia then I don't know what is. All I have to say is that I cannot believe that so little funding is going towards this extraordinary program. Most of my BEST friends until this day (I go to UNC, you know like 3/4 of the GS population goes to UNC) are my very best friends and I see them on a daily basis. I can tell you all this. If I am ever blessed with wealth in life, I will have no reservations in donating a large bulk of my money to keeping Governor's School in operation. Well, I've had my say...To all the Govees of GSE '97, I love you all dearly. It was a great summer!

Hi gang, it's been a while since I posted anything, so I thought I'd drop in say hello. This comes about partly because I was cleaning my room at 1am this morning (don't ask). In the process of clearing my desk so I could actually get some work done, I kncked over a pile of notebooks, papers, and other such desk-dwelling items. When I went to pick up the pile, guess what was on top? My copy of "How the West Was One" from GSW '97! Flipping through it positively made my night. Even though I've read every page and peered at every picture countless times, I still love revisiting the summer of '97 at Salem College. One last thing before I go: hi to the J5, the WC boys, Freud's Study Group, Hector D., Brandy, Wes (good to see someone else from 97's still out there in the guestbook Wes!), Casey, Shanna, Vicki, Seth, and all the rest of you that made that summer something to remember. Hello to the GS Classes of 2000! This is to let you know that your contact information has been added to the GSAA Alumni Database, which you can access from this site. Please pop over to the database and add your E-mail addresses, since it is from the database that we create our global and class-specific E-mail list servers. Giving us your E-mail address will guarantee that you will get the latest information on GS, reunions, and the GSAA. As you move off to college, remember to keep your address information updated in the database, both electronic and physical. I'm glad to see that the Class of 2000 enjoyed their summer as much as the previous 36 years of alumni did. Theories come and theories go, but friendship remains much the same.

Such a magnificent period of time to send one down their chosen path (though I can't imagine that I've could possibly have strayed farther from my chosen area I in maths!). I've only been gone from governor's school for about four days now and I already feel that it is going to have a lasting impact on my life. I really miss all of my friends so much but I think that we will be still keeping in touch for a long time after this. It's going to be strange going back to the Alumni Symposium next year and seeing all these people being like "oh I haven't seen you in a year!" and I will have seen my friends in at least the past six months. I DO NOT WANT TO LOSE TOUCH WITH THESE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will never forget the lessons I learned at governor's school or the friends I made there.

I'd like to say a special hello and welcome to the Class of 2000. I was at Meredith today for the graduation ceremonies at GSE, and it certainly brings back memories of my own final day in 1979. Music changes, fashions come and go, science advances, and governments crumble, but the love and friendship that you see on the last day of GS is always the same. The tears, the hugs, the smiles, the sadness. I hope that you members of the Class of 2000 will always remember this special summer, and that you will join the GSAA and help us keep this program alive for future classes, and future generations. Congratulations, all of you. May your lives never be the same again.

I just graduated from the 2000 class of the Governor's School of North Carolina. It was the most amazing experience that I have ever had. I learned so much about myself and my art - I attended in Drama!!! It was so wonderful...words cannot describe the feeling that this experience has given me. My one comment is live your life with no regrets and act as if there is no day but today - make yourself happy and make it count! NO REGRETS!

Hello, everyone. I just wanted to say hello and goodbye to all the alumni who attended the Symposium this past weekend. We had a great time. The faculty and alumni put on great seminars. The participation was first-rate. The Class of 1999 made us all remember that GS is as much about love and friendship as it is about math and music. I was there for the whole thing, from the first toss of the frisbee to the last note of Pages Mystiques (after 14 hours of Vexations!). I'm going to put up a full report for all of those who did not attend, so that you will feel envious of those who did! One request: if anyone took pictures during the event, please send a copy (or a scan) of them to Sam Sanders so that we can put them up on the site. Sam promises to return any photos after scanning them. To ask him how to send them, contact him at webmaster@ncgsalumni.org. Thanks for a great weekend. Look for the overview in the next couple of days. If anyone else wants to send Sam their observations for publication, please do! Da Prez

Hey GSW '91ers! Just feeling nostalgic about that summer in Old Salem. Taylor's standing "O", "I spent my last ten dollars on...", Thumper, peanut butter fights, Lestat, and teaching Jason F. more than he ever wanted to know about women. Every time I hear 4'33", I get a tear in my eye... Can you believe it's been 9 years? YIKES!!! We should all meet one summer night on the patio next year. Where is everyone? I check this site frequently, but seldom see stuff from fellow GSW '91ers. Spread the word about this site!

Nice to see that Governor's School has a website. I think about my stay at GSE in the summer of 88 occasionally, particularly at this time of year. I can't smell hot concrete without thinking about the walkway across the lake at St. Andrews! I'd love to hear from my Governor's school friends!
